Betsey Johnson Bounces Back from Bankruptcy with Affordable Clothing Line

It was a sad day in April when fashion designer Betsey Johnson filed for bankruptcy and announced most of her stores would close. We couldn't imagine a world without Johnson and her outrageous dresses … but now we don't have to.

She's back in action with a new line. Word is the dresses will retail between $99 and $249, and will likely launch in stores this spring. We couldn't be more excited.

Though we were sad when Johnson filed for Chapter Nine, we could never really afford most of her pretty, girly-girl/punk rock dresses anyway. (The average cost of a Betsey Johnson party dress was about $350 yikes.) Johnson's new line is by no means cheap, but at least it's a little more reasonably priced and takes into account her younger (sometimes cash-strapped) fans.

There aren't any images of the new dress line yet, but she is slated to show during New York Fashion Week in September. Until then, let's take a look at some of Johnson's greatest hits and here's hoping her new stuff will be just as cute … only cheaper.

1. Pink Party Dress.

When we think of Betsey Johnson, we think of frilly dresses in pepto pink with layers and layers of tulle, just like this darling pink party dress.

2. Lipstick Sweater Dress.

Betsey is famous for injecting humor into her clothing, like this pop-art style lipstick sweater dress.

3. Black Sequins.

We hope her new line has some signature Betsey Johnson details like bows and sequins.

4. Watermelon Purse.

 

Betsey Johnson's new line will only be dresses for now, but hopefully she eventually branches out into accessories. We'd love a more affordable version of this watermelon tote bag.

5. Punk Rock Pink.

Call it punk rock couture; Betsey's dresses often included corsets, plaid, and tough girl touches.
