5 Easy Skincare Tips

hotspot
From adult acne to dry skin to cellulite, we've got you covered with 101 tips for your best skin ever.

1. Green Giants
"Greens like spinach and arugula are packed with naturally occurring antioxidants," says Robyn Flipse, MS, RD. For a radiant and blemish-free complexion, add a side salad to your lunch or dinner.

2. Healing Honey
Jodi Ranson, an esthetician at Utah's Golden Door Spa, recommends honey for taking care for dry, cracked lips. "It helps to heal wounds and hydrate parched skin, plus the anti-viral properties make it a good cold sore remedy, too."

3. Wrinkle Eraser
"Topical retinoids have been shown to improve the skin's texture and the appearance of fine lines," says NYC-based dermatologist Dr. Ariel Ostad. "So, for women looking for potent anti-agers, retinol is the one must-have ingredient to help keep skin young."

4. Sun Stopper
Stop stretch marks and scars from getting darker with sun exposure by slathering them with a thick layer of sunscreen. Apply a scar-minimizing topical at night to repair damaged tissue while you slumber.

5. Chatty Cathy
Yakking away on your cell phone for hours can lead to breakouts and rashes along your jaw line and cheek. Keep antibacterial wipes handy to swipe your phone clean and help your skin stay clear.

5 New Tricks to Add Volume to Flat Hair

hotspot
Some people struggle with never-ending adult acne, too-thin lips, or a not-quite-straight-enough nose. The bane of my beauty existence? Permanently-flat hair.

And so I'm on a Quixote-esque mission to pump up my volume. Anytime I can corner a hairstylist I demand to hear his or her best tips for flat hair. I've got permanent dibs on all samples of volumizing hair products that come into the office. And every morning I religiously follow a routine of this root-lifting spray, upside down blow drying, and the absolute best dry shampoo I've ever tried.

Yet, I still rarely leave the bathroom with Bardot-worthy volume. In fact, I often look like this eternally limp-haired celeb. And so I decided that it is time for drastic measures. That's why I turned to the best in the hair biz to find out the most creative, foolproof, never-heard-'em-before volumizing tricks that'll morph my fine hair into a thick mane of bounciness. If you're also ready to end your quest for volume, check out the full list of tips here, or a few highlights below:

1: Get a blunt cut
There's a common misconception that layering your hair removes weight to make it fluffier. But hairstylist Caile Noble (who does Charlize Theron, Diane Kruger, and Reese Witherspoon's hair) says if you take away the weight from the hair, it actually leaves it looking wispy and finer. The solution? Get a blunt cut. If you don't want to part with your layers, Noble says to "sacrifice some length and ask for long layers, which creates a fuller and more voluminous appearance."

2: Use pin curls
Creating pin curls "is a very traditional, yet effective way to achieve bouncy, voluminous hair," says Noble. Here's how to perfect the process:
Step 1: Apply a volumizing hairspray or root-lifting foam all over your hair.
Step 2: Blow dry a section of hair straight out with a round brush. Roll the section into a curl and set it with a pin. Do this all over your hair and wait until the curls have cooled before releasing them.

3: Let hair dry in a bun
This is one of our favorite tips. If you want to style your hair -- but you don't want to put in a lot of effort (or time) -- simply let it dry in a bun. When your hair is still wet, apply a root-lifting product, flip your hair upside down, and comb all your hair into a very high ponytail. Then, instead of tying it with an elastic, twist your hair into a bun and secure it with bobby pins.

Noble says to go about your morning until your hair is dry. Then, when you undo the bun, "you'll find that your roots will have dried in an upward position, and the bun will give your hair a soft bend. Take a flat paddle brush and brush out your hair. Voila -- voluminous hair."

4: Do a poufy updo
This chic hairstyle is easy to do and creates volume that lasts all day.

5: Curl your hair
You don't have to curl all of your hair to get volume, says Noble. Just throwing in a couple of curls will give your hair movement, which Noble says will make your hair look a little fuller than stick-straight hair. It's also an easy way to go from work to party-chic. Spray a bit of root lifting product into your hair, then blast a blow dryer through the roots quickly to give them some fluff. Then, with a curling iron, create a few curls around your crown. Run your fingers through them to get soft waves.
